The Rural House design is to be an affordable green home prototype for the Licking County Habitat for Humanity. The home design shall take into consideration that it can be used by other Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout Ohio as they strive to improve upon their "typical" habitat house model.
The competition site, shown above, is located on Monroe Street in Newark, Ohio. Newark is a city in Licking County, 33 miles east of Columbus

The program for this site calls for a 1,200 square foot single-story home with 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms for a disabled US veteran. The construction budget for the home is $60,000, which includes site improvements, landscaping, utilities, house construction, specialized labor, and permit fees. Competition Brief
After the first rural prototype design is built in Newark, the construction drawings will be made available to all 70 of Ohio's Habitat for Humanity Affiliates to be used as an additional model in each affiliate's portfolio. |
